Simone Rapisarda is an award-winning filmmaker and educator. His feature-length films, challenging the traditional borders between creative and critical practice, have garnered accolades at festivals such as Locarno, Amsterdam, Vienna, Rotterdam, Ann Arbor, Montreal, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and have screened at museums and galleries such as the MoMA in New York, the National Gallery in Washington D.C. and the Art Gallery of Ontario. His works have been reviewed in publications such as Artforum, Film Comment, Cinema Scope, IndieWire, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times. He has been the recipient of the Most Promising Filmmaker award at Ann Arbor for THE STRAWBERRY TREE in 2012 and of the Best Emerging Director award at Locarno for THE CREATION OF MEANING in 2014. His research interests are critical theory, postcolonial studies and cinematic hybridity.
